Global Institute for Health and Human Rights

The Global Institute for Health and Human Rights was founded in 2012 by a group of international, inter-disciplinary experts from a number of universities with the mission of generating a deeper understanding of the intersection between health and human rights, and promoting innovative solutions to contemporary challenges in this arena. Through research, education, policy, advocacy and development, the Institute seeks to advance the understanding and protection of health and human rights in a theoretical, academic, practical, and ethical context.

Based at the University at Albany in New York State, the GIHHR has a number of ongoing international projects in the areas of family planning and reproductive health, maternal & child health, prison medicine, HIV/AIDS treatment and counselling, and advocacy, refugee populations, research and health policy. We strive to be interdisciplinary in both our analysis of global health issues and in our approach to addressing them.

The GIHHR welcomes interested undergraduate and graduate students from any discipline to serve as interns throughout the summer and academic year. Interns will have the opportunity to participate in and conduct research with the GIHHR’s expert staff members and affiliates as well as receiving inter-disciplinary exposure through attending workshops and seminars.
