Be someone who matters to someone who matters! YOUTH POWER!’s Ready to Achieve Mentoring Program (RAMP) is seeking caring and dedicated individuals to volunteer as mentors for our career focused mentoring program.
RAMP is a career focused mentoring program youth with disabilities (diagnosed or perceived) who are involved with or at risk of entering the juvenile justice system. RAMP uses group, peer and individualized mentoring to teach youth about job options, how to set goals for themselves, and how to reach those goals with steps anchored in their daily lives.
Mentors take the lead in supporting a young person by spending about 1.5 hours a week at weekly meetings and helping them reach individual career and personal goals. Mentors serve as a positive role model and friend, and help to build self-esteem and motivation. Mentors receive training and ongoing support as well as have the opportunity to participate in structured activities which are payed for by the program. Mentors also obtain great work experience and the opportunity to grow their resumes. Mentors should be willing listeners, encouraging and supportive, patient and flexible and tolerant and respectful of individual differences.
